J’s bowling journey Part 2

It has been 2 years since we started J's bowling journey. I am very happy with how far he's come since he's started. Along the way we gave away the 6lb ball and gotten him a new 8lb Columbia 300 White Dot ball from Columbia~

And in this year we've been getting him prepared for the Novice Primary Bowling Challenge!

And so the serious work of getting him ready for the competition started from the beginning of the year...

We've been working on his timing, footwork and finishing. And whenever possible we would bring him for practise at Changi CSC or Tampines Safra lanes.

The Novice Bowling Challenge was over 2 weekends in August, with a Saturday for Singles event and another for the Doubles event. The top-12 highest scoring players will go onto the Masters event on the 2nd Sunday.

J's teammate for the Doubles event, who we handed over the 6lb ball that J used to bowl with~
Now, as a (sort-of) qualified coach myself, its always interesting to watch young bowlers on the lanes. But what was more interesting was watching the parents...

Wah! The noise they make (including me :p)~ Seriously every shot was met with cheers or groans~ Mothers were more vocal while fathers were like quiet volcanoes... They try not to show their emotion then they throw a fist up in the air upon a strike or a spare, then quickly revert to the dormant volcano mode before anyone can see it! LOL~~~

The Masters qualifiers!
(I heard the biggest boy on the backrow is primary 2 as well... and he won the Masters!)
I'm glad J was able to perform pretty well at the challenge, making it to the Masters event (12th of 12 positions! LOL~) and coming in at 8th position overall. Considering the fact that he's primary 2 and coming up against other competitors who are up primary 3, I was happy with his effort. He was averaging nearly 100/game (84/98/97/80/103/123), which I felt he could have done better... but I guess he was nervous at the beginning...

He's sort of completed with his present training phase and his coach is now moving him on to 2-handed bowling. I reckon at his age its good to get exposure to all sorts of bowling techniques. He might be a 2nd Jason Belmonte?!

Whatever he choose to do, I hope he enjoys the game and continue to accompany us to bowling~
